History

On 16 June 1969, Provincial Board Resolution No. 145-A was adopted creating the barangays of Sta.Elena, Constantino, Marcelo Albereto and Lanao in the municipality of Virac. The four (4) barangays formerly comprise a single barangay known also as Sta. Elena. Through the Provincial Board resolution, Barangay Marcelo Alberto was detached and separated from Sta. Elena to form and constitute a distinct and independent barangay without affecting in any manner the legal existence of the mother barangay. The barangay was named after Don Marcelo Alberto, husband of Doña Maria Juana Alberto y Molina, a native of Sta. Elena.
