Former President of the Republic of the Philippines Rodrigo Roa Duterte extended his greetings and congratulations for the successful revival of the 6th Abaca Festival celebration of the Province of Catanduanes last May, 2022.
In his message, ex-Pres. Rody Duterte recognized the significant contribution of the abaca industry to the country’s economy as well as the hard work of local abacaleros who he described as “indomitable as the materials they weave”.
Furthermore, he expressed his hope for the continued progress of the province’s employment opportunities, local culture and tourism through this annual celebration.
Just last April, ex-Pres. Duterte signed RA 1170, officially declaring the Province of Catanduanes as the “Abaca Capital of the Philippines”. As the country’s major producer of abaca, Catanduanes contributed up to 31.72 percent of total abaca production in 2020 and 33.74 percent in 2019.
